Complete Anatomy at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic

Complete Anatomy is used daily in the classroom at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic, and is integral to students’ understanding of the human body. Dr. Kathryn Allen, head of the basic Sciences department at the college, explains how Complete Anatomy has transformed the learning environment.

“The anatomy programme at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic is one of the basic science courses taught in the students’ first year, and it’s one of the fundamental subjects that the students will use throughout their whole chiropractic education.

Muscular system
Building the muscular system incrementally in Complete Anatomy

Complete Anatomy helps students to understand the anatomy like never before. It allows our teaching staff to highlight the exact origins and insertions on the bones, in addition to the parts, surfaces and bony landmarks, all in 3D. Using the body system buttons, it’s incredibly easy to build up the muscular system incrementally, showing only what’s relevant.

Our staff and students are able to isolate bones, and even explode a group of bones and rotate them around to reveal their 3D structure. This is something we haven’t been able to do before with physical models.

This control of the 3D model is especially useful for the skull. For example, you can isolate the sphenoid bone, and then spin it around in order to really understand it. It’s also fantastic for studying the spine. You can explode the vertebrae and see how they articulate together in the Complete Anatomy’s 3D environment.
