press

Educators and professionals can now publish content on the platform

Dublin & San Diego – April 5th, 2019

3D4Medical, the global leader in the development of ground-breaking 3D technology that disrupts traditional methods of education, has launched its flagship product, Complete Anatomy, as a Publishing Platform for education. The Complete Anatomy platform has over 1 million registered users.

Subscribers to the platform will soon see courses ranging from Anatomy & Physiology to Surgical Training in a variety of languages that can be used as resources by faculty in creating custom curriculum solutions for students, and also used by students as standalone courses as part of their subscription.

Robert Cairnduff, COO of 3D4Medical, said “We are very excited about the next phase of development of this platform. Initially, we developed 5 courses in collaboration with 8 PHDs in Anatomy Education, also using Dr. Mark Nielsen’s Cadaveric Image library, Professor Peter Abraham’s Clinical Correlate library and work that we had done with the University of Sydney on a Point of Care Ultrasound course, but this takes things to a whole new level. We are launching at least 15 new 3D interactive courses this summer and will launch at least 60 altogether by the end of 2019. It’s a great opportunity for faculty to partner with 3D4Medical and develop world-class published content.”

Dr. Jonathan Wisco, Boston University School of Medicine, noted “I love using the Complete Anatomy Course Creation platform. I’ve been able to utilise the 3D models and integrate them with slides that I’ve prepared. The combination of the two has been really engaging for my students and I look forward to creating more courses in the future.”

“Our university is currently moving toward more online and blended classroom courses. Online content and resources are also in high demand from our students. Being able to author my own content in Complete Anatomy is an important way for me to update my courses and respond to the increasing demand for online content. Complete Anatomy is a visually stunning, interactive resource that allows me the flexibility of customizing course content that is directly applicable to our clinical program” added Dr. Cara Sandholdt, University of California, Davis School of Medicine.

“At 3D4Medical, we look for partners that leverage our ground-breaking technology to bring the latest breakthrough educational solutions to the market,” said John Moore, CEO of 3D4Medical. “Being able to match this best-in-class technology with subject matter experts in their field is already changing medical education as we know it. This pace of this journey is increasing rapidly and we are a cornerstone of that revolution.”

A virtual cadaveric dissection with HoloHuman

Pearson and 3D4Medical are pleased to announce the release of HoloHuman, the world’s most complete anatomy application for mixed reality and HoloLens.

With HoloHuman, Pearson and 3D4Medical are transforming anatomy education around the world, bringing to life interactive life-size holograms of the most detailed and accurate anatomical models on the market. Launched in Denver at Educause 2018, HoloHuman is already being used by early adopter institutions across the world.

The technology for HoloHuman has been co-developed by Pearson and 3D4Medical, merging Pearson’s market-leading digital learning technology with 3D4Medical’s technology, design, world-class anatomical content and expertise, for which 3D4Medical has won many awards in the digital human space. This partnership builds upon 3D4Medical’s Complete Anatomy platform for tablets and mobile devices and combines the expertise of both Pearson and 3D4Medical in the AR, VR and MR space.

HoloHuman allows students and teachers to work in groups using collaborative sessions where all participants can see and interact with unique 3D holographic models of the human body. This provides a life-like alternative to cadaveric dissection, and allows users to explore and learn about more than 13,000 separate anatomical structures. Using 3D4Medical’s technology, teachers can create lessons and activities in advance of a class and save them to Pearson’s cloud-based Holographic Content Management System (HoloCMS).

The HoloHuman technology comes into its own when a user wishes to identify specific structures, for example, the deltoid muscle into which intramuscular injections are given. While wearing the HoloLens, students can visualise the muscle and move into the body to more closely examine the underlying structures such as bones and blood vessels, allowing for a better understanding of certain anatomical structures and surgical procedures.

Mark Christian, Head of Immersive Learning at Pearson, said: “Pearson is the lead education partner with Microsoft and 3D4Medical in bringing this exciting new learning technology to the global market. We are encouraged to see more colleges and universities start to recognise the potential of mixed reality as a growing platform in virtual learning and teaching.”

Pearson is working in partnership with six higher education institutions worldwide to better understand how this technology will amplify and extend learning in health sciences, namely Leeds University, San Diego State University, Bucks County Community College, RMIT University, the University of Canberra and Otago Polytechnic.

Niall Johnston, President of 3D4Medical Limited, said “This is a great opportunity to partner with such an established publisher as Pearson on this state-of-the-art solution. The model set for HoloHuman is based on the same technology that we use on our Complete Anatomy platform. The extension of this technology to HoloHuman is very exciting for us and represents a whole new market and audience for our products and solutions.”

Dr. Emma Collins, Principal Lecturer at Otago Polytechnic in New Zealand, said: “Being able to walk around the 3D models and view the structures from all angles was really great at helping students to visualize the relationship of different body structures and systems to each other. I believe it has helped to consolidate their learning.”
