It acts to increase the surface area of the articular part of the acetabulum, and as a protective layer within the joint complex.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Five causes of labral tears have been identified, including trauma, femoroacetabular impingement, capsular laxity, displasia, and degeneration.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This animation demonstrates a degenerative labral tear, which develops as a result of wear and tear to the hip joint.
